About Marie
Marie invites us to honor our bodies as precious and ever-changing. With the personal lens of her husband’s 21 years with Parkinson’s, Marie no longer takes moving with ease for granted.
An RYT 500-hour registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, Marie is certified as a Yoga Medicine® Therapeutic Specialist. Her expertise includes reproductive health, the nervous system and restorative yoga, myofascial release, the function and dysfunction of the spine, hip, and shoulder, and principles of Traditional Chinese medicine. Her job is not to treat or diagnose, but complement any current medical treatment plan with personalized yoga to meet an individual's needs.
A certified Mindful Yoga teacher, Marie trained at Oregon Health and Science University with Kimberly and Jim Carson. This study focused on alleviating the symptoms of chronic pain and cancer with the tools of breathwork, meditation and body awareness. Studying at Duke Integrative Medicine with Kimberly Carson and Carol Krucoff, Marie’s knowledge of the physiology and anatomy of aging informs her sequencing to build bone health and improve circulation. Studying with Matthew Sanford in Minneapolis, she has explored adapting yoga to persons with disabilities.
Book learning aside, it is in her home practice that Marie experiences yoga just as you will when you join her. Marie encourages a beginner’s mind – curious and alert – to cultivate a mature yoga practice.
What else to know about Marie? Smitten spouse of Duncan for 41 years, proud mother of two extraordinary daughters and son-in-laws living in the Hudson Valley of New York, jubilant grandmother, retired children's librarian, community advocate for children and healthy neighborhoods, cradle east Tennessean, and lifelong learner.
